Introduction to Vinyl-Free SPC Planks

What is Vinyl-Free SPC Planks?

Just as the name suggest, a Vinyl-Free SPC plank does not contain any polyvinyl chloride, namely PVC, which has well been used in various of building materials throughout the past 2 centuries.

Like no other, conventional Stone Plastic Composite SPC tiles are made of mixtures of calcium carbonite and PVC. As such, SPC were considered an upgraded innovation from Luxury Vinyl Tiles LVT which are generally made of higher content of PVC with plasticizer to make semi-rigid properties, one of the reasons why it is also called resilient floorings. SPC, being a modified composite, has a rigid core property to deliver more stability, harder surface and other features which differ from semi-rigid LVT. However, both SPC and LVT has concern as PVC polymers possess concerns over environmental sustainability and health safety.

Why PVC is considered a problem?

Production in PVC based Products continues to be a concern not only it uses chemical process that is associated with dioxin substance, the product life cycle for PVC is also a major concern. Unlike other more easily recyclable polymers such as Polypropylene and PET plastics, Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) can only be effectively recycled and reused using chemical process, which more toxic chemicals are used.

3. Product End Life Recycling

Product End of Life Recycling in PVC polymers are more complex and costly to other type of plastics. The recycled PVC also lose some of its property performance after recycling and more additives needs to be added to compromise it.
